Ideal for uneven substrates
Our tile backer board is suitable for installation onto surfaces that are not good enough to tile on, the substrate must be fairly level and made of an appropriate, moisture resistant material. However, walls are frequently covered with a gypsum based plaster as part of construction. Plaster is not a suitable substrate for tile coverings, especially in areas of high moisture. Additionally, these surfaces are typically not level enough.
Other materials such as plasterboard panels or chipboard or also prone to water ingression making them unsuitable as a tiling subbase.
Tile backer board vs Plywood
Stud frame structures typically made of wood or metal are covered with plasterboard sheets, these such materials are typically unsuitable as a tile substrate, particularly in areas with a high moisture content.
Our tile backer board is a quick and easy option to install as an overboard substrate for tile coverings over stud frame structures of wood or metal, using our insulation fixing packs, please check for correct sizes for installing directly onto stud frames (min 15mm)
