Wooden sub-floors

Wooden sub floors should be free from dust, oil and debris, they must also be level, 6mm tile backer boards must be stuck to wooden subfloors using a suitable cement based flexible tile adhesive in line with the Tiling Federation recommendation, 10mm tile backer board can be either stuck down or it can be screwed down using our fixing packs.

Concrete sub-floors

If the floor is a new concrete screeded floor it should be allowed to cure naturally – as a guid you should allow 1 week per 25mm but this is dependant upon weather conditions and always check to make sure the floor is fully dried out. If the finished concrete floor is not level, a thin layer of latex levelling compound can be applied to give a smooth, level even surface, HeatStore™ insulation boards can be stuck down using a suitable cement based tile adhesive

Primer/Sealer

Always use a suitable Primer recommended by the adhesive manufacturer on both concrete and wooden sub-floors to seal the sub-floor, before applying any tile adhesives or latex levelling compounds.

Wooden sub-floors

XPS Premium insulation boards are not suitable for fixing over flexible wooden subfloors, we recommend you use tile backer boards for this type of installation as they have a cement coating and are much tougher.
